According to this Nielsen report, the usage of text messaging in the US has increased by 450% from Q1 2006 to Q2 2008. From 61 texts to 357 texts per month. The group of teens 13-17 years old, text during Q2 2008 1742(!) messages per month. The report describes the marketing opportunity of using short codes, i.e. similar to what Barack Obama did with Text GO to OBAMA (62262) . 35% of the teenagers says they have seen any text ad, and among these, 45% say they have responded. Nielsen also writes: Today, consumers look at every text message they receive. For marketers, that presents an immense opportunity, yes, but also an obligation to not contaminate this marketing and communications channel. Marketers should look at SMS and see an opportunity to engage with a core customer base in a new and unique fashion. Short code marketing has the potential of a mass medium but requires a personal execution.

The time is flying! A lot of interesting projects since last update. Just to mention some we have run several Mobile Q&A and Mobile Polling sessions. The mobile is a fantastic tool to use to get live feedback from a huge crowd of customers or employees. For a major mobile phone manufacturer we ran a Mobile Picture Competition in several countries. Employees from all over the world took photos and sent to the campaign site via MMS. Mobile Reminders are also gaining popularity. Twenty-four hours before you should attend to an event, a meeting, a service or similar, an SMS is sent to your phone. Do not forget to come tomorrow! All for now, have a good day! ps. Follow us on Twitter as well. @mm3se ds.
